Why flat fees
Hourly billing makes clients afraid to call their own lawyer. Flat fees fix that. For the categories below, the firm quotes one price, in writing, before any work begins. The quote covers the matter described, so you know the cost on day one and there's no meter running when you have a question.
Every flat fee is confirmed in a written agreement that spells out exactly what's included. If a matter turns out to be more complicated than it first appears, you'll hear that before the work starts, not on an invoice afterward.
Matters commonly handled at a flat fee
- Uncontested divorce: starting at $750, complete document preparation and filing through final judgment, with and without minor children
- Wills and estate planning packages: individual and married-couple packages including will, durable power of attorney, and advance directive
- Deeds: preparation and recording of survivorship, warranty, and quitclaim deeds
- Business formation: LLC formation with operating agreement
- Contract review: quoted by document length and complexity
- Expungements: eligibility review and petition
- Name changes and other straightforward probate court petitions
- Many misdemeanor and municipal court matters: quoted after a review of the charge
How other matters are billed
Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee: no fee unless there is a recovery, with a free case review up front. Contested litigation, including contested divorce and custody, is billed against a retainer with clear communication about where things stand. In every case, the fee arrangement is in writing before representation begins.
Getting a quote
Call the office or send your situation through the intake form. Most flat-fee quotes can be given the same day, once the firm understands what the matter involves.
